Beall's List was a list of journals and publishers considered predatory, created by librarian Jeffrey Beall. It was taken offline in 2017 under legal pressure from publishers it named, and it is no longer officially maintained. What exists today are unofficial, anonymously maintained archived continuations.

You'll usually need this as a historically important, still-referenced starting point, never as a sole or final source.
Why it matters
It's a historically important, still-referenced tool for spotting predatory publishers, but it should be used alongside current indexing checks like Scopus and DOAJ, never on its own.
