Post-positivism is a refinement of positivism acknowledging that objective truth exists but can only ever be imperfectly and probabilistically known, not directly and completely observed.
In context
You'll usually need this when your quantitative design accepts that measurement is always somewhat imperfect, rather than claiming perfect objectivity.
