Framing Your Question

Research problem

A research problem is a topic sharpened into three held-together elements: the context it arises in, evidence a gap exists, and why closing that gap matters. Missing any one of the three, a proposal reads as a survey of a field rather than an argument for a study.

In context

You'll usually need this when writing the opening paragraphs of a proposal or introduction chapter.
