Secondary citation
A secondary citation is citing a source you found quoted or described within another source, rather than the original itself, generally discouraged in doctoral work in favour of locating and citing the original directly.
In context
You'll usually need this only when the original source is genuinely unobtainable, and it should be flagged as such.
