Also called z score, standard score
A Z-score is a standardised value showing how many standard deviations a data point sits from the mean, the basis of a Z-test used to judge whether a result is statistically unusual.
In context
You'll usually need this when a quantitative result is reported against a standard normal distribution rather than in its own raw units.
