Anonymisation

Also called anonymization

Anonymisation is removing or altering identifying information so a participant cannot be linked back to their data, distinct from confidentiality, which protects who can access identifiable data rather than removing the identity itself.

In context

You'll usually need this when preparing data for sharing or publication in a form nobody could trace back to an individual.
