A reflexive journal is an ongoing written record, kept throughout data collection and analysis rather than reconstructed afterward, documenting how a researcher's own position may be shaping the research.

You'll usually need this as evidence of reflexivity, particularly in qualitative or insider research, where recreating it after the fact carries much less weight.
