Also called types of research gap, gap taxonomy
Not all gaps are the same: a gap can be evidence based (nobody tested this), methods based (nobody tested it well), knowledge based (findings conflict), or population based (nobody tested it on this group). Naming the type sharpens your justification.

You'll usually need this when a reviewer says your gap statement is too vague to be convincing.
